Challenging terrain will not stop Mortenson.

Mortenson’s Wind Energy Group was selected by New Jersey Resources (NJR) to construct the Ringer Hill Wind Project in Salisbury, PA. This was the fourth wind project we have constructed for this customer.

 

The scope of work included access roads, foundations, collection system, tower offload, erection and a substation pad. Construction began in May 2016 and completed in November 2016.

 

The terrain the project team worked with was forest, rolling terrain, surface rock and a lot of unsuitable topsoil, causing some challenges. Virtual Design Construction (VDC) models were developed for each turbine site due to the limited space available. Arch culverts were installed over two waterways. The team drilled and blasted rock for foundations, utilizing rock hammers for additional support and rock trenching. To bridge the unsuitable soils the team imported shot and surge rock for access road construction allowing for deliveries and crane travel.  

 

Construction of the project utilized 125 local jobs and 10 local suppliers. At peak construction, about 150 people were employed on site.
