EDP Renewables (EDPR) selected Mortenson to construct the Meadow Lake V Wind Farm in Wolcott, IN. This was the eighth wind project we have constructed for this customer. Meadow Lake V was the fourth phase of this project being developed by EDPR.
Mortenson was selected by EDPR for its competitive price, area knowledge and the relationship built from the Hidalgo Wind Project Team’s superior performance. The scope of work included public road improvements, access roads, foundations, collection system installation, erection of 50 Vestas V110 2.0 MW turbines, wiring and met towers. We also self-performed all civil work. Construction began in October of 2016 and completed in August of 2017.
Terrain at this project was a flat agricultural land that had many fields containing drain tile. The municipal drains crossed through the project area which required constant SWPPP maintenance. Another expected challenge for our team to overcome was the May start of turbine deliveries. The team addressed this by completing civil road work in the fall of 2016, ahead of the early start in 2017 for foundation and erection work. At peak construction, about 200 people were employed on site.
