Minneapolis STEM & Career Exploration Expo

Mortenson recently attended the Minneapolis STEM & Career Exploration Expo at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The event exposes eighth grade students in Minneapolis Public Schools to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)-related careers and learning opportunities in the community. Approximately 2,100 students from 19 schools, 210 chaperones, and 50+ Minneapolis Public School staff attended the expo.

Our booth featured the Oculus Rift, a virtual reality head-mounted display used to explore 3D models of projects in a completely immersive way. This technology allows customers to visualize projects before and during construction. We also helped students to improve their hammering skills by offering games of Hammerschlagen, where participants race for prizes to see who could hammer in their nail the fastest.

Students who visited our booth talked with team members about the various career opportunities available at Mortenson and watched a video promoting the craft trades. They also learned about recent projects that Mortenson completed in the area.
