Community Empowerment

TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES THROUGH ECONOMIC INCLUSION

Helping Communities Thrive Economically

Let’s build together with purpose.

Together, we can drive positive impact in communities.  By partnering with small, local, and diverse businesses, and helping to bring more people to the construction industry, we can create opportunities and change lives.

Supplier Development

The growth of local, small and diverse businesses is essential to our industry. More importantly, it contributes to the overall economic wellbeing of our communities. Our focus is not about 'checking boxes,' it's about ensuring there is robust and real participation for partners on our projects. By creating access and opportunity to meaningful contracting and career opportunities, we enable our trade partners to thrive.

We’re intentional about meeting qualified firms based on criteria including previous experience, qualifications, and price.  We seek to engage firms including but not limited to small, local, and diverse firms including certified Disabled, Disadvantaged, LGBTQ+, Minority, Veteran, Women Owned, among others.

Workforce Development

Creating More Opportunities in Construction

The construction industry needs more skilled labor.  In fact, we need a half a million people on top of normal demand (NRCA – Construction Industry Will Need More Than Half a Million Workers in 2024). To build tomorrow, the world needs laborers, carpenters, electricians, ironworkers, equipment operators, masons, and much more.  At Mortenson, we partner with customers and community organizations to help bring more people into the construction industry and invite talented people to build a career.

Meaningful Engagement

You need a partner who makes it their business to know your business.   Our Community Empowerment programs and practices are intentionally designed to create opportunity for people and businesses – through mentoring and technical assistance, allyship and partnerships or workforce development training and resources to drive operational excellence.

I’m gaining confidence every day. I love my career choice. Busting rebar on my first job was brutal — mentally and physically challenging. It was go, go, go all day, every day. Once I got through that, and it didn’t break me, I knew this was the career for me.
