Do you have a clear path to achieving your sustainability goals
without breaking your budget?
Industry leaders are making big commitments when it comes to sustainability and green building, and the truth is, it can be complicated to achieve these building requirements. But we understand what’s at stake. You need a partner who can help you make the small step improvements and the bold moves. When engaged early enough, our team has mastered this process and can arm you with the data you need to achieve your goals at a neutral cost.
carbon emissions come from the built environment
The biggest opportunity to achieve your sustainability goals within a high performing building, and protect your budget is before design. Without your building partner on board at the same time as your design team, you're missing out on critical data, which could result in overrunning your budget or even stalling your project. This data, we can provide, has allowed organizations like you to achieve more than they they thought possible - all at neutral cost. Make sure you have all the right experts at the table before making these big decisions.

BUILDING PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR THE FUTURE
University of Chicago Keller Center
It was critical for the University of Chicago, and for the School of Public Policy, to set new standards in regard to carbon and energy reduction on this building. Despite many risks, through early integration, Mortenson, the design team and the University partnered to achieve more than what they thought possible when it came to building performance.
TRANSFORMING A WAREHOUSE INTO A SUSTAINABLE OFFICE
Kohl’s Innovation Center
Kohl’s wanted to centralize their teams. But needing to convert a manufacturing space into a new corporate office, presented many risks. Mortenson engaged early to identify red flags and equip Kohl’s with the data needed to make the right decisions before it was too late. This partnership resulted in increased annual operational savings and a higher performing building long-term.
REVOLUTIONIZING A 1950’S OFFICE INTO LEED PLATINUM LANDMARK
SRP Project Administration Building
It’s rare to achieve LEED Platinum with a major renovation - and even more rare when the initial goal was to just focus on LEED construction. A private utility company, SRP has big environmental goals and worked with Mortenson and project partners to define a clear path and identify a solution to surpass these goals at a neutral cost.
LEADING YOU TO A MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Working closely with our customers and our partners, we are pushing new limits and creating a more sustainable planet for generations to come. Our efforts are rooted in our commitment as a leading top 20 Green contractor in the US and numerous projects to back it up.
Healthy Buildings in Action
The Beam on Farmer is raising the bar. This development takes extensive health and wellness measures to the next level — which will ultimately exceed Harvard’s 9 Fundamentals of a Healthy Building. This approach to the office environment is ideal for competitive companies who believe providing their employees a healthier space contributes to productivity and attracts top talent.
Championing Sustainable Transformation
Recently, Mortenson signed the Building Green’s Contractor’s Commitment, providing a road map to building with minimal environmental impact. We are proud to play a role in driving transformation in our industry, piloting new ways to track and measure company-wide sustainability focused on job site wellness, carbon reduction, and water and waste management. This means you can trust us to protect your values and commitment to the planet because we walking right alongside you in that journey.
Our very own, Julianne Laue, Director of Building Performance, also joined the Building Green’s board to further drive solutions to advance these new standards.
What does it take to build the greenest arena in the world?
A lot of teamwork and critical planning - especially when Mortenson had to pivot 15 months into construction — to achieve these new commitments. Up for the challenge, the team fast-tracked sustainability elements to offset 100% of the energy used to operate the building — while disclosing and off-setting all the embodied carbon emissions associated with the construction and materials — in record time.
