Mercy Hospital renovated 48,000 square feet of space at Mercy Medical Center in West Des Moines, Iowa. The three-phase renovation project involved the construction of a 35,000 square foot mechanical penthouse directly above 12 fully functioning operating rooms and extensive demolition to make way for six new state-of-the-art operating rooms.
The use of BIM was instrumental in coordinating the complex renovation and addition to clearly communicate construction activities and the tie-ins to the existing facility. Superior communication with hospital staff was essential in this project's success to ensure the patient experience was not compromised.
