Building Around Campus Life
Because construction took place on an active campus surrounded by residential areas and ongoing university events, the project team implemented a carefully phased construction plan to minimize disruptions to athletic events, commencements, and campus activities. Site work and exterior enclosure work were phased to eliminate disruptions to Northwestern’s ongoing events.
Elevating the Fan Experience
For fans, the renovation introduced new chair-back seating, upgraded restrooms, expanded concession areas with additional point-of-sale stations, and new food and beverage options. The arena also received advanced lighting, audio, and video technology, a larger lobby, a new ticket office, and expanded premium seating sections to increase revenue opportunities.
Supporting Student-Athlete Success
For student-athletes, the project added new locker rooms for men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and volleyball, along with updated office spaces for coaching staff and athletic personnel.
Creating a More Accessible Arena
Accessibility improvements were a major focus of the project. Wider concourses improved circulation throughout the arena, while five new elevators replaced the previous single-elevator system. Additional accessible restrooms were also incorporated to better serve all visitors.
