Buyer I

SUMMARY 

Mortenson’s BLUvera Group is currently hiring a Buyer I to be responsible for working with project teams and suppliers to purchase materials, supplies, equipment, and services. Strong communication skills are necessary as you will interact with a variety of staff in an ever-changing environment. Your ability to remain flexible, inventive, dedicated, and efficient with a high level of integrity and confidentiality is vital to your success in this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop relationships with suppliers: solicit bids, analyze quotations, interview prospective suppliers, and select suppliers

  • Purchase items and services at the most favorable price consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements, and other factors
  • Craft and maintain catalogs for each supported operating group 
  • Propose purchase transactions that higher authority approve prior to final action
  • Analyze individual markets, manage budget, and increase margin on a regular basis, track trends in purchasing habits
  • Arrange returns for unacceptable products to suppliers
  • Track order status from time of placing order until delivery and communicate status to project teams
  • Enter purchase orders, retain contact with suppliers to ensure delivery of material on a timely basis
  • Visit job sites or offices quarterly at a minimum to better understand their challenges and educate them on procurement to ensure the implementation of streamlined processes
  • Carry out special projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, construction management, or equivalent technical training/experience
  • Minimum two years of experience in purchasing field
  • Current driver's license
  • Software experience
  • Knowledge of construction processes, equipment, materials, and purchasing procedures
  • Negotiating, organizing, planning, verbal, and communication skills
  • Strong customer service and analytical skills
  • Active listening skills and effective communication
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

The base pay range for this role is $65,100 - $87,900. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.  This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
