Veterans at Mortenson
Veterans bring unique experiences, dedication, and leadership skills that enrich our company in countless ways. At Mortenson, we are proud to work alongside veterans, including our chairman and owner David Mortenson, a U.S. Navy veteran, who embody our values and drive our mission forward. Our Mortenson values echo many principles from the military:
- We value honesty and doing the right thing – even when no one is watching.
- We believe the world is what we make it, and leadership capability is within all of us.
- We put others before ourselves and enable them to achieve their very best.
I had the privilege of serving in the Navy on board the USS Hewitt. Those years were some of the most influential in my leadership development because the importance of teamwork, of caring for people, of discipline and responsibility were essential to the mission. Veterans bring the kinds of experiences and leadership qualities that will help make our company better.

Through our Veteran’s Business Resource Group (BRG), veterans across the country and company can connect and engage with other veterans and allied team members while developing their skills and gaining a unique connection to the company. BRGs at Mortenson are voluntary, team member-led associations that help foster our diverse, inclusive workplace by creating safe spaces, development opportunities, and more. The BRG provides Veterans the opportunity to:
- Create comradery and connections to enhance veteran leadership experience and capabilities
- Share stories, experiences and journeys during time of service
- Further the shared esprit de corps from our service to maximize the experience at Mortenson
- Work together to foster a work environment that is attractive to other veterans seeking employment in our industry
Mortenson provides unique opportunities for veterans to take advantage of their experiences in the military. Veterans are also supported in many ways through the Veteran’s BRG, including ways to connect and share their perspectives while helping to recruit and retain more veteran team members.
