The Women in Construction team from Mortenson’s Denver operating group held its 2022 Women’s Event to promote intersectional allyship, advocacy, and inclusion across the construction industry. From May 23-24, more than 300 Mortenson team members from offices nationwide convened in Denver for a series of events, networking and breakout sessions. 
 
Titled "Leading with Confidence", the conference featured several inspiring speakers, including Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame member and co-founder of the Colorado Latina Initiative, Katherine Archuleta, poetry from Suzi Q. Smith, and panels led by several of Mortenson’s women executives and leaders of each of Mortenson’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion groups. A panel on Women in the Field highlighted the challenges and opportunities women in construction face in the field every day. The conference was held at the Mortenson-constructed HUB North, and included a walking tour of RiNo, where Mortenson plans to build its new ground-up office.
 
"Mortenson genuinely walks the walk when it comes to fostering a more supportive and empowering culture for women in our industry, and this event is one of the many ways we’re creating space for learning, networking, and building systems of support and allyship,” said Maja Rosenquist, senior vice president at Mortenson. “The construction industry is facing a historic worker shortage and the solution is right in front of us. By creating a culture of inclusion, we are building stronger project teams that harness the full potential of the workforce.”
 
This event comes on the heels of Mortenson’s recent Women’s Empowerment Weekend, part of the company’s new partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, which aims to provide essential training to women in construction and engage women leaders within Mortenson, as well as the Denver group’s WIC Week event at Empower Field at Mile High, which saw more than 40 participants from across the building industry in Colorado come together to celebrate and support awareness for the role of women in construction. Mortenson also recently co-founded Construction Inclusion Week, alongside a consortium of national builders, with the goal of sparking dialogue and action in the industry through a week of intentionally focused activities.
