Halcyon Hotel

What does a design-build renovation of a former post office into a hotel include?

Mortenson transformed the former U.S. Post Office in Cherry Creek into the Halycon Hotel. Developed by BMC Investments and Sage Hospitality, Mortenson led a design-build team that included Johnson Nathan Strohe Architects, gkkworks, Avro | KO, and Skylab Architecture.

With 154 keys and 90 stalls of below-grade parking, Halcyon Hotel boasts 5,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, a roof deck pool and bar, two ground floor restaurants, retail space, and two levels of below-grade valet parking. The square footage of the hotel, restaurant, and retail space is 113,559 square feet, and the parking garage is 29,874 square feet, for a total of 143,433 square feet.

The hotel opened in the summer of 2016, on schedule and on budget. The team took a proactive approach in aligning and tracking the design against the budget. The team was also very successful in managing numerous change requests, ensuring information was presented in a timely manner, and decisions were made, so there was no impact on the schedule.
