Mortenson's connection to the University of Minnesota is nearly a century strong. Family ties constructed the University's Memorial Stadium in 1924. In honor of this legacy, 100-year old Hilding Mortenson, a bricklayer on Memorial Stadium, had the honor of placing the first brick at TCF Bank Stadium in 2008.
Home to the Golden Gopher Football team, the open-air stadium features a horseshoe-shaped bowl, 50,000 seats, 36 private suites, 750 loge seats, 300 indoor club seats, 1,250 outdoor club seats, and a 30,000 square foot indoor club. Located in the heart of the University's bustling athletics campus, Mortenson worked safely amidst pedestrians, bicycles and bus traffic. Completed six weeks ahead of schedule, this Big 10 Conference stadium earned the first LEED Silver Certification by the US Green Building Council for a collegiate or professional football facility.
With a drive to maximize fan experience, Mortenson also installed the stadium’s technology infrastructure. This included a distributed antenna system (DAS), broadcast cabling, satellite master antenna television (SMATV), and surveillance and security systems. Specialized electrical power distribution, lightning protection, and low voltage scopes were self-performed as well.
In 2013, the University selected Mortenson upgrade TCF Bank Stadium to meet NFL regulations, which allowed the Minnesota Vikings to play two seasons here during construction U.S. Bank Stadium.
