Senior Specialist – Crane Maintenance and Asset Management
SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking a Senior Specialist – Crane Maintenance and Asset Management to join our Equipment Solutions Operating Group. Based at our Minneapolis Headquarters, this role provides tier-2 subject matter expertise and support for Mortenson’s owned and re-rented cranes. The position will oversee crane fleet deployment, maintenance, utilization, and asset tracking, serving as the key resource for project and crane superintendents when high-level support is required.
This role requires regular travel (25-50%) to Mortenson project sites and vendor locations to provide hands-on inspection, coordination, and resolution of maintenance issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate, track, and execute maintenance and utilization plans for Mortenson-owned cranes.
Manage crane assignments, location tracking, transportation between jobsites, and winter storage planning.
Monitor annual certifications, preventative maintenance schedules, and repair work.
Track and support maintenance of Mortenson crane support equipment, including jibs, wire rope, track pads, lights, data loggers, spare part supplies, crane mats, and other associated inventory items.
Serve as the point of contact for project and crane superintendents needing advanced maintenance or troubleshooting support.
Track downed cranes, document issues, monitor repair status, and communicate path to resolution.
Conduct trend analysis and provide feedback to operators to prevent recurring issues.
Coordinate with vendors to expedite repairs, secure parts, or identify replacement equipment.
Inspect Mortenson-owned cranes and equipment on project sites and at vendor facilities.
Provide subject matter expertise to other Equipment Specialists and support integration of crane-related maintenance data into associated systems.
Partner with project teams to ensure crane availability and reliability for project schedules.
Provide work direction to Associate and Specialist team members.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 4 years of equipment fleet or rental management experience OR minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
Experience as a service manager, fleet manager, or similar role strongly preferred.
Crane-specific experience valued but not required.
Experience leading or mentoring team members preferred.
Strong knowledge of equipment maintenance programs and vendor coordination.
Demonstrated ability to navigate and resolve multi-party conflicts in a professional and solutions-oriented manner.
Telematics is preferred, not required.
Rental management system experience preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Excellent organizational and planning skills, with proven ability to manage multiple priorities.
Strong communication skills, with ability to influence and support diverse project teams.
Willingness to travel 25-50% to jobsites and vendor locations.
Positive, professional attitude with a commitment to safety and quality.

The base pay range for this role is $79,600 – $119,400. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
