AI Operations Engineer

SUMMARY

 

The AI Operations Engineer ensures operational excellence and scalability of Mortenson’s AI platforms and deployed models. This role focuses on maintaining AI infrastructure, implementing CI/CD pipelines, and optimizing workflows for speed, reliability, and compliance. It is critical to Mortenson’s 2026 priorities: AI readiness, governed delivery, and enterprise-scale adoption. 

 

Hiring Locations: Minneapolis, MN 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Platform Maintenance & Reliability 

  • Maintain AI platforms and deployed models to ensure 99.9% uptime and rapid recovery. 

  • Monitor system health, performance, and security compliance across environments. 

CI/CD & Automation 

  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for AI models and services. 

  • Automate deployments and rollback processes to minimize downtime and manual intervention.

Workflow Optimization 

  • Streamline operational workflows for speed and scalability.

  • Partner with AI Manager and product teams to align infrastructure with delivery goals. 

Governance & Compliance 

  • Ensure adherence to Mortenson’s AI governance standards (privacy, security, ethical use). 

  • Implement monitoring and audit controls for compliance and risk mitigation. 

Collaboration & Support 

  • Work closely with AI Engineers, Data Scientists, and MLOps teams to troubleshoot and optimize deployments. 

  • Provide technical guidance and documentation for operational best practices. 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field 

  • 3+ years in AI/ML operations, DevOps, or platform engineering

  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (Azure preferred)

  • Strong understanding of MLOps practices and model lifecycle management

 

Preferred: 

  • Experience in AEC/construction technology environments 

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric and enterprise data integration

  • Knowledge of AI governance frameworks and security best practices

The base pay range for this role is $85,300 – $128,000 (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).

 

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.  This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
