SUMMARY 

Mortenson is currently seeking a Data Scientist that will be responsible for modeling complex business problems and discovering business insights through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques to solve key business problems, and help build a data-driven business culture in an industry where analytics is still an undefined competency.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand the assigned business challenge and develop a plan to identify, obtain, and analyze the 

  • necessary data to drive improved business performance 

  • Extract information from internal systems, industry reports, public information, field reports, and other 

  • data sources to identify statistical relationships and translate them into internal, operational insights 

  • Conduct statistical analyses, randomized controlled trials, and predictive modeling

  • Apply and integrate statistical, mathematical, and predictive modeling to manage and manipulate 

  • complex high-volume data from a variety of sources 

  • Develop, analyze, and model operational, economic, management, and other organizational data 

    • Quantify the competitive performance of business segments 

    • Evaluate potential operational changes 

    • Design new approaches and methodologies, ideally using AI & ML algorithms when appropriate

  • Review program data consistently to provide corrective action when necessary, based on information 

  • collected and current trends to maximize business performance 

  • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels 

  • All other duties as assigned 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, applied mathematics, data science, data analytics, or related discipline; graduate degree preferred
  • Minimum of 1-4 years of experience in data science
  • Proficiency with data mining, predictive modeling, and statistical analysis
  • Full proficiency in SQL, Python, R, or similar coding languages and platforms
  • Experience with Fabric and Power BI
  • Basic familiarity with Salesforce, Oracle, and GL/Financial data
  • Strong ability to concisely present and explain large amounts of information and complex methods
  • Ability to think analytically with great attention to detail
  • Shown experience in following complex instructions
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Willingness to advance business ideas that are sometimes unstructured and without clearly defined outcomes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Shown understanding of business operations
  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback

The base pay range for this role is $92,300 - $138,500. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.

 

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
