Director of Financial Planning & Analysis and Strategic Finance

SUMMARY 

Mortenson is currently seeking a Director of Financial Planning & Analysis and Strategic Finance to lead our Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function and drive financial strategy across the organization. This critical leadership role will have direct oversight of the corporate planning cycle, consolidate long range financial planning, and provide financial leadership for critical strategic initiatives.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Corporate FP&A Leadership

    • Lead and provide strategic direction to the Corporate FP&A team, ensuring high-quality, accurate, and timely delivery of core financial planning activities.

    • Oversee the development, implementation, and management of the company-wide forecasting and annual planning processes.

    • Direct the creation and presentation of consolidated managerial reports and financial packages for the Senior Leadership Team and Board of Directors, providing insightful variance analysis and performance commentary.

    • Drive continuous improvement in planning models, reporting tools, and FP&A processes to enhance efficiency and decision-making capabilities.

  • Consolidated Long Range Planning and “What If” Scenario Analysis

    • Own and manage the consolidated long range planning and modeling process, informing critical resource allocation decisions for the Company.

    • Conduct complex financial analyses, including profitability deep dives, scenario planning, and investment return evaluations to guide strategic and operational decisions.

  • Finance Leadership on Strategic Initiatives

    • Serve as the primary Finance leader and partner for all major Mortenson strategic initiatives, providing financial expertise, rigorous analysis, and guidance from concept through execution.

    • Evaluate the financial impact of potential M&A activities, new business ventures, and significant organizational changes.

    • Collaborate closely with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Group Leaders to translate strategic objectives into clear, measurable financial targets.

  • Team Leadership and Development

    • Mentor, coach, and develop the Corporate FP&A and Strategic Finance teams, fostering a culture of excellence, high performance, and continuous professional growth.

    • Lead cross-functional initiatives with other members of the Finance Leadership Team (FLT)

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, or related field or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 10 years of prior relevant work experience

  • MBA or CPA preferred

  • Experience with relevant technology

  • Experience with analytics and visualization tools

  • Leadership skills: ability to set direction, implement change and create a culture of accountability within the team

  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to perform in a fast paced, changing environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision

  • Positive, professional attitude and excellent customer service skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and build successful business relationships across the company

The base pay range for this role is $163,600 - $245,400. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). If applicable: This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.

 

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
