SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking a Lead Finance BI Developer that will be responsible for Finance’s Reporting BI COE and building a best-in-class operating model using Microsoft Fabric with a focus on User Experience and Governance. This position plays a pivotal role in defining, supporting, and managing Finance Data Assets and delivering Self-Service capabilities/ This role will also partake in the broader enterprise Data Strategy and Governance efforts across the Company.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ability to work, lead, and facilitate conversation in a cross-functional, collaborative, team-based environment
Dashboard & Report Development
Create dynamic, visually appealing dashboards that support leaders and teams
Build reports that simplify complex datasets and communicate key insights
Maintain design consistency and establish visualization best practices
Data Modeling & ETL
Create and manage data pipelines using Fabric Data Factory, Dataflows Gen2 or other Fabric-native tools.
Develop reusable DAX measures and calculations to support analytical needs
Ensure ETL/ELT process deliver timely, accurate and reliable data
Platform Management & Optimization
Administer Finance’s Fabric Data Assets, Power BI Workspaces, refresh schedules and artifacts
Support deployment pipelines and CI/CD workflows for dashboards
Collaborate with IT and architecture teams to optimize Fabric capacity and overall system performance.
Enforce security, compliance, and governance policies
Collaboration & Support
Work closely with teams to understand reporting requirements
Provide training, documentation, and guidance to help users leverage data
Act as a trusted resource for ongoing reporting and analytics requests
Displays advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with initiative to seek and recommend innovative solutions
Strategic Initiatives
Contribute to long term BI and Data strategy
Identify automation opportunities and streamline manual reporting processes
Support special analytics projects, data quality initiatives, and modernization efforts
Stay up to date with Fabric and Power BI features and industry best practices
Identify needs and develop processes to consume and consolidate large amounts of data into centralized, sustainable, and repeatable measurements
Expert knowledge of Microsoft Toolset, best practices and General Data Operations best practices
Develop and manage Data Quality and Data Governance KPIs for Finance
Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring for other BI and Data Analysts
Support business adoption of self-service analytics by creating documentation, templates and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of five (5) years related experience; or, high school diploma or GED and 8+ years related experience
5+ Years of professional experience developing reports and dashboards in Power BI
Strong Command of Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service and related Access and Security (RLS/OLS)
Advanced Experience with SQL Server, T-SQL, or database design
Advanced knowledge of DAX and Power Query (M)
Proven experience designing data models that are scalable, high performing and designed for self-service
Ability to turn business questions into actionable BI solutions
Large scale deployment experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Data Factory, Dataflows and workspace management
Solid ETL/ELT development background
Proven positive and professional attitude and strong customer service skills
Strong communication skills with the ability to present data clearly
Ability to assess, determine, and delegate priority of multiple customer needs
Agile Product delivery, Sprint Planning Experience
Knowledge of Python or R for analytics and data transformations preferable
Experience using Git or other version control systems preferable
Microsoft BI or data engineering Certifications preferable

The base pay range for this role is $85,300 - $128,000. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
