Senior Equipment Accountant

SUMMARY  

Mortenson is currently seeking a Senior Equipment Accountant that will Prepare and maintain timely, accurate, and reliable accounting and financial records for M.A. Mortenson Company and its Equipment Services Business Service Group. This individual will be a key partner with Equipment Solutions to maintain the accuracy of financial information, enhance internal controls, and optimize reconciliations and reporting to drive business insights.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Oversee fixed asset transactions for the Equipment Solutions Group in partnership with equipment managers, ensuring accurate recording and reporting in accordance with GAAP and Mortenson policy.
  • Complete month-end financial close activities, including coordinating closing of the enterprise fixed assets ledger, preparation and posting of journal entries supported by appropriate documentation, and analytical review of account activity.
  • Prepare monthly / quarterly account reconciliations for high-volume accounts supporting the main equipment business. Accounting areas include Fixed Assets - Equipment, Vehicle Leases, Key Reserves and Accruals. 
  • Assist in the development of enhanced reporting / analysis of data for equipment business and accounting activities, in support of agile reporting.
  • Exercise fiduciary responsibility in maintaining and designing formal procedures, internal controls, and appropriate segregation of duties for key accounting processes and calculations. 
  • Help drive continuous improvement by leveraging systems & technology  and financial controls best practices
  • Ensure accounting processes and equipment activities align with technical accounting requirements and internal policies. 
  • Work with external auditors on interim and year-end audit activities, including preparation of workpapers and supporting analysis. 
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and participate in special projects, as identified.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and external audit requests
  • Experience related to equipment and fixed asset accounting preferred
  • Strong computer skills, with experience in general ledger software; Oracle Cloud Financials and Fixed Assets preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of technical accounting principles / US GAAP, accounting processes / best practices, and internal controls
  • Shown ability in meeting expectations and related deadlines; ability to work with different personalities and work styles.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Professional, business-driven mentality with the ability to communicate and interact with all levels of the organization, as well as external parties. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with initiative to seek innovative solutions and drive efficient change.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Results- and deadline-oriented to ensure delivery of appropriate products and services in an accurate, complete, and timely fashion.

The base pay range for this role is Min $85,300 – Max $128,000. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%). 

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
