Substation Technician
SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking a Substation Technician that will be responsible for safely assisting Electrical Laborers and Journeyman with material handling, assembling and dismantling of equipment, preparing work areas, and cleaning of machines and workspaces.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit utilizing various hand tools
- Safely utilize hand and power tools after proper training (drills, crimpers, cutters, etc.)
- Lift, position, and fasten objects
- Prepare, handle, and supply materials and tools to be used by electrical trades
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, tools, and equipment
- Perform underground electrical installation, including conduit, wire pulling, and terminations
- Work on structural steel sub installations and support systems as required
- Install and assemble bus fittings, jumpers, and term cables according to project specifications
- Ensure equipotential bonding and grounding are properly installed and tested
- Safely operate trenchers, mini-excavators, and aerial lifts in accordance with safety and equipment procedures
- Assist with overhead and underground routing of electrical systems as directed
- Work under immediate and close supervision according to standard instructions and established procedures
- Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
- All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Two (2) years of substation experience preferred
- Current driver’s license required
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operation and maintenance instructions, blueprints, schematic drawings, and procedure manuals
- Ability to work with tools such as powered and non-powered hand tools, and operate equipment including trenchers, mini-excavators, aerial lifts, forklifts, skid loaders, vibrators, pumps, drills, and jackhammers
- Willing and able to follow instructions and ask clarifying questions
- Ability to handle materials that can weigh up to 200 lbs
- Strong teamwork orientation; positive attitude and professional customer service skills
- Detail-oriented with active listening skills and effective communication, including openness to diverse input and feedback
- Repetitive hand, arm, leg movements
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling: up to 50 lbs
