Senior Estimator II

SUMMARY  

Mortenson is currently seeking a Senior Estimator II that will be responsible for leading estimating efforts of gathering, calculating, and compiling data to produce project estimates for large projects, and may also manage multiple projects. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Organize, plan, and schedule for estimate preparation 

  • Lead teams of estimators and facilitate necessary meetings 

  • Assign and adjust work to ensure reliable estimates, incorporating all relevant information 

  • Prepare trade partner strategy and invitations to bid, ensuring complete pricing coverage 

  • Obtain relevant documents, including BIM, and promote collaboration for comprehensive Scope and Budget Alignment 

  • Identify and mitigate project budget and margin risks, utilizing cost history and performing cost studies 

  • Prepare and manage Bid Day, estimate presentations, and electronically file documents 

  • Maintain industry knowledge, build relationships with key stakeholders, and lead by example while coaching team members 

  • Participate in group and company initiatives, conduct estimate reviews, and assist in software selection 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Estimating, Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field experience 

  • Minimum 12 years construction industry experience 

  • Proven ability to organize and manage multiple projects, tasks, and initiatives 

  • Expertise with building and estimating techniques and software 

  • Able to manage multiple large projects with complete command of scope and budget 

  • Able to lead teams of estimators on complex work 

  • Proficient in using BIM, plans, and other project documents to quantify work 

  • Identifies and utilizes resources to provide guidance during the design phase to keep projects on budget 

  • Knowledgeable of all building systems, contract types, and other project impacts, reflecting those in estimates 

  • Uses industry relationships to increase knowledge, problem solve, and mitigate risk 

  • Recognizes and mitigates risk with design phase teams 

  • Thorough understanding of pricing, productivities for self-performed work, and maintaining data quality 

  • Able to set target budgets and complete cost models using cost history software (Cortex) 

  • Able to complete large, complex self-performed estimates, including general conditions, analyzing past project data for pricing 

  • Understands and factors schedule and logistics impacts into estimates 

  • Advances group capabilities through involvement in initiatives and coaching less experienced team members 

  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor junior Estimators 

  • Able to prepare deliverables and present completed estimates to internal and external customers with command of scope and budget 

  • Understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices 

  • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills 

  • Active listening skills and effective communication, open to diverse input and feedback

The base pay range for this role is $142,500 MIN - $213,800 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). 

 

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.  This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
