Mortenson is looking for an experienced Assistant Project Manager to join our Solar group who thrives in a dynamic environment and can collaborate across all levels of the organization. This role requires flexibility, resourcefulness, and professionalism, along with strong communication skills and attention to detail.
You’ll support the Project Manager from bid preparation through final client acceptance, while leading and mentoring project team members. The ideal candidate can anticipate challenges, identify opportunities, and develop creative, practical solutions.
Location: Any home base location in the United States
Travel: This is a 100% travel position; locations may vary based on the project. Mortenson hires for a career and not a project. When your project is complete you will be assigned to another project.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform cost control and financial management
Work with Preconstruction on project estimate and schedule
Coordinate scopes of work
Review and compile pay applications, change requests, and other project financial documentation
Partner with the Project Manager or Construction Executive
Draft client proposals
Contract administration and management
Award subcontracts
Provide direction to the project team for safe and timely project completion
Act as liaison for project engineers, mentor, and coach others
Provide job assignments and manage career development
Direct responsibilities and guide Field Engineer(s) and Project Engineer(s)
Manage subcontractors and suppliers for the project
Oversee budget for and make recommendations for subcontractors and trade partners
Lead project buyout with subcontractors and trade partners
Facilitate and lead meetings between subcontractors related to project coordination
Other duties as assigned, including:
Perform on-site Project Manager duties on small scope projects
Implement a quality plan that ensures the customer’s specified performance criteria in design and
construction
Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
Lead team members by example, offer effective coaching and feedback, and effectively manage
performance
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, and/or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
Minimum five years of related previous experience
Proven ability to assist with all responsibilities for complex projects
Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
Microsoft Office, project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level
Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
Current driver’s license

The base pay range for this role is $99,500 MIN - $134,300 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
