Preconstruction Design Phase Engineer I and II - Solar

Mortenson is currently seeking an experienced Design Phase Engineer I and II to join our Solar group to translate owner’s project expectations into design drawings, specifications, and schedules, and provide financial cost documentation. Strong communication skills are necessary as you will coordinate with staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment. Your ability to remain flexible, inventive, dedicated, and efficient with a high level of integrity and confidentiality is vital to your success in this role.     

 

Location: Minnesota- Headquarters (hybrid)

 

Travel: up to 50% (to project sites as needed)

 

This position offers opportunities at both levels 1 and 2, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Support the project team in achieving scope and budget alignment, schedule alignment, an integrated team experience, construction readiness, and excellent financial performance  
  • Assist with establishing and managing project budget and scope expectations, budget trending logs, and any associated communications and resources  
  • Create and manage project schedules and key milestones, hold team members accountable for reaching set milestones  
  • Assist in regulatory approval and permitting process  
  • Identify technical design and specification concerns, escalate as needed to achieve resolution 
  • Provide meaningful recommendations to project’s programming and conceptual design activities, ensuring constructability and logistics solutions in project design 
  • Coordinate with integrated construction team to incorporate BIM/VDC modeling technology into project design phase 
  • Assist with project proposal development 
  • Prepare bid packages and contract manuals for subcontractors and suppliers in conjunction with project planning team 
  • Coordinate document and electronic interface processing 
  • Model and set the tone for extraordinary customer relations  
  • Gathering feedback and clarification during design process, and identify future projects 
  • Other duties as assigned 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, Construction Manager, Estimating, or equivalent field
  • Construction, solar or renewable energy experience preferred 
  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills 
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and handle multiple project tasks 
  • Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices 
  • Microsoft Office, Project, and pertinent web application skills at an intermediate level 
  • Positive professional attitude, and strong customer service skills 
  • Open to change based on diverse input and feedback 
  • Effectively work with those of diverse backgrounds and at all levels of the organization 
  • Adaptive, effective communication and active listening skills  
  • Ability to travel up to 50% 

 

Design Phase Engineer I

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
    • Minimum of two year’s relevant experience 
  • The base pay range for this role is $82,000 - $110,700 

 

Design Phase Engineer II

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
    • Minimum four years relevant experience 
  • The base pay range for this role is $91,100 - $123,000 

 

(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). 

 

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.  This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
