Senior Electrical Superintendent I 

 

SUMMARY 
Mortenson is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Superintendent I for our Solar Operating Group to provide overall electrical expertise and supervision for project electrical scopes from planning through closeout. This role will oversee electrical subcontractors, ensure quality installations, and support site management in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality projects. 

 

  • Position does not offer sponsorship of any kind.

  • Looking for candidates that have actual commissioning experience.  

  • Candidate must have minimum 12 years Electrical experience and 13 years of leadership/supervisory experience.

  • Must be willing to travel and be in California for minimum 2 years with regular rotations home every 3 weeks if more than an hour from the jobsite.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Coordinate electrical work on-site, including underground cabling, overhead lines, and substation construction 

  • Review drawings, submittals, and specifications for quality and compliance 

  • Develop and maintain project schedules and 3-week look-aheads 

  • Supervise and ensure quality control for self-performed and subcontracted work 

  • Monitor subcontractor performance, safety, and resource planning 

  • Lead installation and termination of fiber optic cables 

  • Enforce Mortenson’s Zero Injury Program and project quality standards 

  • Coach and mentor field personnel and assist with hiring decisions 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent 

  • Minimum 12 years of experience with high and medium voltage equipment, transmission/collection lines, and substation construction 

  • Minimum 13 years supervisory experience 

  • Current driver’s license 

  • Working knowledge of latest NESC, NEC, IEEE, NEMA, and OSHA codes and standards and industry safety requirements and methods  

  • Ability to gain and maintain basic understanding of Wind Turbine construction to ensure proper code requirements and installation methods  

  • Possess basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices  

  • Proficiency in the installation, testing, acceptance, maintenance, and repair of high and medium voltage cables  

  • Knowledgeable about current injection, Hi-pot, capacitance discharge, contact resistance, Megger, TTR, Doble, and other methods of cable and equipment testing  

  • Possess working knowledge of electrical drawings, sketches, and prints, underground duct banks, trenching, manholes and vaults for distribution and collection systems, underground and pad mount transformer usage, SCADA systems used in the power industry, transmission line construction, testing and commissioning, and substation construction, testing and commissioning  

  • Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback  

  • Ability to travel up to 100%

**The base pay range for this role is $164,300 - $246,500. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). 

 

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.  This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
