U.S. Air Force, Terra-Gen and Mortenson Unveil Edwards Solar Project
Edwards Solar Project Ribbon Cutting

Mortenson was on hand to help the United States Air Force 412th Test Wing unveil the Edwards Solar project – located on the Edwards Air Force Base in Kern County, California – at a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 2, 2023. The Edwards facility is part of the Edwards & Sanborn Solar + Storage project that Mortenson is building in partnership with Terra-Gen. It has almost two million solar panels installed and will have 120,000+ batteries installed at completion. As the largest Solar + Storage project in the world, it can supply up to 1,300 megawatts of power to the California Independent System Operator grid – estimated to power over 238,000 homes.

During the ceremony, Dan Johnson, CEO, Mortenson began by thanking all the entities involved in this monumental project and then acknowledged all of those whose hard work on the ground made it possible. “Projects like [Edwards & Sanborn] are modern marvels in engineering, construction, cooperation, and collaboration. It takes a commitment from each party to make it all possible, but today I would especially like to acknowledge the men and women in the field whose minds and muscle designed, procured, and built this facility.” He also pointed out the amazing statistic that these “skilled craft team members put in over one million hours of consecutive work without a recordable injury”.
