Driving safer innovation

One of the things I’m most excited about is how technology, especially AI, is starting to reshape our work. I really believe it will help us become even safer on our jobsites, particularly when it comes to documentation and identifying high‑risk activities before they escalate. I’ve also seen a big shift in how willing our partners are to listen and try new things. That openness, combined with the much faster pace of project timelines today, makes innovation more important than ever. It pushes all of us to adapt, stay curious, and keep finding better ways to build.

Lead by listening

I try to start by listening. I believe good things happen when leaders are quiet, have bigger ears, and keep open minds. I lead shoulder‑to‑shoulder - I want to know my team as people, share a laugh, and get in the dirt with them. I try to stay focused on what’s ahead and stay solutions‑oriented. Mortenson is the right fit for me because leadership here isn’t scripted. We’re encouraged to show up as ourselves and bring diverse ways of leading to the work. This approach helps me and my team anticipate risks so that every person can go home safe.

Built on transparency

For me, every project starts with transparency - an open door and honest communication, there are never enough questions. None of us are perfect, but when we’re upfront about challenges, we can align on a common goal and minimize problems together. My strongest customer relationships have grown the same way - by spending real time together. It builds trust and turns strong partnerships into lasting ones. And at the end of the day, doing the right thing lets me sleep better at night, knowing I made the right call and that I am supported in those decisions.

PERSONAL PASSIONS

My favorite volunteer moments are hands‑on like when we built a backyard playground for a young girl in cancer treatment and repairing donated trailers for families on a reservation in South Dakota. Those experiences reminded me how a small time commitment can make a lasting difference. I believe each of us can change the world by keeping perspective, being kind, and not getting spun up over the small stuff. More than anything I’m most proud of my six kids - they keep me young, grounded, and focused on leaving a legacy they can build on.
