Carina Sowinski
Safety Director | Energy Storage
Carina plays a critical role in advancing the safety, health, and performance of team members across Mortenson’s project sites. For nearly a decade, she has championed Mortenson’s Zero Injury culture by leading high-risk operations, supporting craft team members from onboarding through advanced safety training, and building and mentoring high-performing safety teams. She leads by example, setting a consistent standard for what excellence in safety looks like in the field.
Carina began her career in Mortenson’s Sports + Entertainment group, contributing to landmark projects including Fiserv Forum, Climate Pledge Arena, and Allegiant Stadium. These experiences built the foundation for her ability to lead complex, high-profile construction environments.
She later transitioned to lead safety within the Energy Storage group, beginning with Mortenson’s largest energy storage project at the time, the Edwards and Sanborn Solar + Storage project. Since then, she has supported a wide range of projects across the country, including energy storage, microgrids, electric vehicle infrastructure, and structured cabling, bringing a strategic and scalable approach to safety across diverse scopes.
Carina was instrumental in developing and implementing Mortenson’s OneVoice program. This initiative brings craft team members and project leadership together through regular engagement sessions focused on open dialogue, real-time feedback, and continuous improvement. Through strong follow-through and accountability, OneVoice has strengthened trust, improved field execution, and reinforced safety as a core value on every project.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater and maintains both Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certifications.
Outside of work, Carina enjoys traveling, having visited all seven continents, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with friends and family.
