Paul Chubirka

As Director of Operations, Paul is an integral part of the Energy Storage group leadership team. He ensures all projects are staffed, resourced, and managed appropriately while leading the industry in delivering projects safely and to the highest degree of quality. Paul joined Mortenson in 2018 as a project manager with Mortenson’s Chicago office where he built and led major projects including United Airlines – O’Hare North Airfield Program – GSE Facility and the Chicago Transit Authority EV Infrastructure project in collaboration with Proterra – CTA’s first foray into electrification and Mortenson’s pilot EV project.

Paul transitioned to Mortenson’s Energy Storage group in 2023 to lead the 680MW Nova Power Bank project, the largest standalone BESS storage project in the United States. He and his team delivered on all key performance indicators for the extremely complex project that was built on the site of a decommissioned gas plant and included three 500kV substations.

Prior to Mortenson, Paul was a project manager for a heavy civil construction company in California with a focus on water resource projects such as dams, water treatment, and wastewater. There, Paul garnered a deep understanding of the importance of disruption avoidance and clear communication between all parties. At Mortenson, Paul has built strong following from his teams and is seen as a trusted partner by our customers.

Paul has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Colorado State University – Fort Collins.

When Paul isn’t working, you can find him camping, hiking, and rock climbing with his family. He also spends many of his days off traveling with his two young boys and wife, Jenna.
