Aligning Scope and Budget
In any project, there is an inherent push and pull between scope and budget. The customer’s wants and needs for their facility (scope) consistently exceed the budget they’ve approved. It takes experience, realism, creativity, and innovation to bring those two things into alignment. The Design Phase Team is able to use our expertise to enable our customer’s success.
Building Great Teams
Great leadership isn’t a top-down thing. We need to look at the team and nurture their individual strengths. Great teams come from people who love doing the work. Being intentional about how we do the work and how we create paths to great outcomes is key to mentoring and inspiring team members. The Mortenson culture, values, and mission is the foundation to with we build great teams, plan projects, and build great buildings. I am most proud of being able to see the career development and “rise through leadership” of the many team members I’ve mentored and worked with over the years.
A Clear Direction
Technology has fundamentally changed the way that construction projects are conceived, designed, and executed. One of the biggest changes has been the ability to use Virtual Design in Construction (VDC) and visualization tools to bring clarity to difficult details of construction. It allows team members to better manage the details and ultimately provide a better customer experience and outcome.
PERSONAL PASSIONS
I met my wife when I was 19, and we’ve been together ever since. We love going on epic backpacking adventures, discovering great wine and wineries, and spending time with our “circa-1981” group of friends and with our ever-expanding family.
