Leading with humility

The greatest challenge for our industry is the future workforce. As career opportunities continue to increase, we must ask ourselves, what does the future of construction need in leaders – across all roles in our industry? While leadership today is rooted in being agile, strategic, and resilient – at Mortenson, we are also focused on building empathetic leaders for tomorrow. By rolling our sleeves up, staying humble, and creating a sense of belonging for all, we call everyone to be a leader – whether you are in the field or in the office. We are identifying new ways to ignite this passion in potential youth and new graduates, while engaging tenured leaders to advance our thinking.

Changing the way we build

At Mortenson, we are not afraid to try new things. I feel fortunate to come to work every day, to work with our teams to find new ways to improve quality, enhance safety and enrich the experience. Our teams are coming together to drive transformational innovation in our processes, whether it be in industrialization, modularization, or new technologies. When we get to bring new solutions to our customers – that have never been done before – that is where the magic lies.

It’s more than bricks and mortar

When you understand what we are building for, through our customers’ lens, that is when you can truly deliver an exceptional experience. A healthcare customer once said to me, “It’s not just about the bricks and mortar, it’s about creating something that will impact the community for years to come.” He added, “Lives will change in this hospital – in exciting and challenging times.” In that moment, I realized how personal building actually is. It is all about the moments we create.

Personal Passions

I am passionate about supporting an inclusive environment at Mortenson. With so many diverse perspectives and backgrounds, we are all on our own journey, growing together as we learn. Leading with patience and compassion allows us to appreciate our differences – and in turn – foster new, better, and innovative solutions for our teams, our customers, our projects and most importantly, our communities.
