
Ryan Spangberg
Chief Estimator
With over 20 years at Mortenson, Ryan has extensive experience estimating for commercial and federal projects throughout the United States. As Chief Estimator, he serves as a trusted advisor supporting our customers and guiding our federal estimating team in preparing accurate and reliable estimates, while providing mentorship across value engineering, alternate construction methods, maintenance and life cycle studies, and constructability review. He directs the development of cost models, budgets, and estimates at every phase, from schematic design through construction documents. Ryan collaborates closely with architects, engineers, and project stakeholders to ensure estimates are precise and align with current market conditions. Before joining Mortenson, Ryan served in the United States Air Force as a Satellite Communications Technician, where he learned the value of teamwork, precision, and adaptability—qualities he exhibits through his leadership every day. He holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Architectural Drafting and Estimating from Dunwoody College of Technology and is active with the Associated Builders and Contractors organization.

PERSONAL PASSIONS
- I volunteer with United Way, PKD Foundation, and Capital Area Foodbank.
- One of my favorite volunteer experiences was handing out water at the Marine Corps Marathon. Cheering on Mortenson team members and witnessing so many people striving to achieve their goals was truly inspiring.
- I am passionate about reducing the wealth gap, as I believe everyone deserves a fair shot at success.
- I believe each of us can make a difference in the world by respecting others’ thoughts and opinions.
FUN FACTS
- I am especially proud of my family. I have been married to my wife, Debbie, for over 25 years, and together we have raised two wonderful young men, Ben and Zak.
- As a Minnesota native, I enjoy family time, traveling, gardening, cheering on the Timberwolves, building with Legos, cooking, and exploring new restaurants.
