Session: Powering Progress: Innovations in Construction and Renewable Energy Solutions
Saturday, October 26, 2024
2:45-3:30 PM CT
MPCCW – 194 AB
Renewable energy is on a course to shatter growth records as more investments are made to decarbonize our planet. In 2023 alone, renewable energy capacity globally grew by 50% or 510+ gigawatts (that's enough to power ~450 million homes for one year). To keep up this pace and reach our world's decarbonization goals, innovations need to be made to continue to reduce cost, make technology advancements, scale projects, accelerate construction, and find additional talent.
Mortenson, a renewable energy EPC (contractor that focuses on engineering, procurement, and construction), is rethinking every aspect of how we design and build our renewable energy projects to help with these challenges. By leveraging innovative virtual design and construction technologies, developing modular designs to streamline construction, and implementing automation solutions, renewable work can be done easier, safer, and faster for team members. Join us as Mortenson leaders Erin Saewert, Director of Operations - EV and Microgrid Infrastructure, and Krista Twesme, Senior Vice President, share key learnings any inspire the industry in our session, Powering Progress: Innovations in Construction and Renewable Energy Solutions.

Championing Careers for Women in Construction
For many women considering a career in construction, the thought of going into a traditionally male-dominated field can be intimidating or feel restrictive. At first glance, employment numbers seem to reinforce this misconception, as less than 11% of the construction industry workforce and 4% of all tradespeople are women, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
However, there is good news. A deeper look at the same employment data also shows significant progress in female participation in the industry over the last decade. The number of women in construction has doubled in the last 10 years.
