Associate Environmental Specialist - Civil

SUMMARY

Mortenson is currently seeking an Associate Environmental Specialist for our Civil Operating Group. with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.  The Environmental Specialist will support Mortenson's environmental management efforts on a large scale Civil infrastructure project, and additional projects in the future, providing a review of environmental documentation, and advising on environmental matters in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures, and completing actions necessary for environmental compliance.

Candidate must have Texas permitting knowledge and actual Texas environmental experience. This position requires you to travel 35 - 50% of the time, which could be every other week for 2-5 days; some months more travel than other to equal 35-50%.  Must be willing to relocate to Texas, preferably central TX area (i.e. Ft. Worth/Dallas, Waco areas), if not nearby.  This position does not offer per diem.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Implement Mortenson’s environmental program for simple to moderately complex project sites and promulgate environmental compliance of construction activities.  Essential requirements:

  • Develop site specific environmental plans and activities
  • Review environmental submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings
  • Implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental regulations
  • Develop and lead environmental orientation and training programs
  • Lead onsite best management practices for environmental management
  • Monitor implementation of environmental mitigation measures and conduct work site environmental inspections
  • Collaborate with customers on regulatory (Federal, State, Provincial and local) reporting and documentation requirements
  • Maintain operational knowledge of environmental issues in construction, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures
  • Interface with customer’s environmental personnel, environmental consultants, regulatory representatives, etc.
  • Assist in the development company-wide Environmental Management supportive programs

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 0-2 years related experience
  • Strong understanding of Federal, State, Provincial and local laws, policies and procedures
  • A well-organized and self-directed individual who is collaborative and a team player
  • Ability to interact with consultants and governmental agencies 
  • Ability to use PC, tablets and widely used software packages, e.g., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word)
  • Ability to do compliance audits. 
  • Ability to procure permits, document and risk review and data management (sustainability)
  • Current driver’s license
  • Must be willing to travel 35 -50% of the time (could be up to every other week for 2-5 days away from home)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in geology, environmental management, environmental science, biology, or related field
  • Previous related internship experience a plus
  • Current driver’s license

The base pay range for this role is $72,000 - $90,000. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). 

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
