MEP Estimator II

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Responsible for gathering, calculating, and compiling data in order to produce project estimates; for smaller projects, this position will also prepare the full estimate.

KEY RESULT AREAS (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)

Create project estimates

  1. Complete quantity takeoffs and summations of materials
  2. Solicit trade partners, obtain bid estimates and time projections for preparing vendor proposal comparisons and estimate summary sheets
  3. Help in preparing, organizing, and coordinating Request for Proposal documents and schedules, utilizing schedule information to estimate General Contractor's and other schedule-driven items
  4. Determine all pricing options and the appropriate price for the project
  5. Support lead estimator in data input into estimating software program(s)
  6. Perform archive filing and historical cost data gathering

Participation as project team member

  1. Participate in plan and estimate review meetings, other project review meetings, and site investigations, as needed
  2. Support lead estimator in gathering information from local government and private entities that may affect project (i.e. permits, hearings, etc.)
  3. Help manage Addendum log and documents from customers/clients
  4. Provide direction to new Estimators and Engineers as they join the team

Other duties as assigned, including:

  1. Solicit new bidders when needed, and gather necessary documents for inclusion in future projects
  2. May provide training to other estimators and interns

Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  1. Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
  2. Applicable mathematical skills
  3. Familiarity with building/estimating techniques and software: ISqFt, ICE/Bid2Win, On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Bluebeam/PDF, Google Earth
  4. Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  5. Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies
  6. Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
  7. Ability to travel up to 15%
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  1. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Estimating, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field experience
  2. B. Minimum three-year's construction operations experience, including exposure to materials management and project operations
  3. Current driver’s license
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the following with or without an accommodation; sitting, walking, standing, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, hearing, visual acuity, and utilization of a computer and office equipment. This person must be physically capable of reviewing a jobsite multiple times daily. The working environments consist of exposure to dirt, heat, noise, dust, and outdoor weather; as well as indoor and climate-controlled settings.
