Designer II or III – Civil
SUMMARY
Mortenson Engineering Services is currently seeking a Designer II or III – Civil that will be responsible for the drawing preparation, drafting, and design engineering for Civil Grading and Storm Water Management projects and others as requested. This role will work closely with other engineering, design, estimating, and construction team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements.
This position offers opportunities at levels 2 and 3, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD)/Designer support for proposals, estimating, procurement, construction and design change scoping packages in support of the engineering process.
Prepare, provide guidance, or assist in preparing and developing the engineering drawings and deliverables with engineering oversight.
Design and drafting of grading, drainage, and earthwork components for a wide range of site development projects. CADD includes generating contours, slopes, drainage patterns, and cut-and-fill calculations.
Design and implement effective stormwater management strategies, ensuring compliance with local and state regulations, while maintaining sustainable design practices.
Provide technical drafting support in the creation of construction drawing sets.
Provide direction and guidance to other drafters and designers.
Effectively plan, organize, schedule and monitor work activities to ensure design schedules are met.
Conduct detailed designs aligned with our customer requirements and Mortenson’s best practice standards.
Learn and follow company and client drawing standards and procedures.
Prepare design packages by developing the design requirements with the engineer and coordinating integration of other design groups input into the final documents.
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to successfully deliver design projects.
Revise existing drawings and prepare new drawings of basic components from explicit verbal or written instructions or detailed sketches.
Utilize technical understanding of civil design principles to provide design leadership and innovation.
Perform a broad scope of Designer assignments of moderate difficulty and CADD assignments of high difficulty.
Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associates or Bachelor technical degree in Engineering Technology, civil engineering, or related field
Advanced understanding of discipline specific technical designs, QA/QC procedures, and engineering policies
Knowledge of business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
Working knowledge of or are familiar with software packages:
Required Knowledge: AutoCAD Civil 3D including Civil 3D Grading tools, pipe/pressure networks, proposed grading surfaces, and plan & profile development
Familiarity: AutoLISP/CAD automation, AutoCAD Vault, PVcase, Google Earth, ArcGIS/GIS, MicroStation, Revit, Geopak, InRoads
Proficient in the use of computer-aided design software and Microsoft Office
Proficient in CADD theories and principles
Ability to perform basic designer assignments independently and handle multiple projects with shifting priorities
Active listening skills and effective communication including an openness to diverse input and feedback
Ability to travel up to 10%
Designer II Qualifications:
Associate degree in CADD preferred
4+ years of design experience as a practicing designer/technician
Experience in the civil site development industry
Designer III Qualifications:
Associate degree in CADD preferred
6+ years of design experience as a practicing designer/technician
Experience in the civil site development industry
The base pay range for this role is $100,100 – 151,800. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
