Assistant Supply Chain Manager or Supply Chain Manager – Structured Cabling
SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking an Assistant Supply Chain Manager – Structured Cabling to support the Structured Cabling Operating Group. This role oversees the structured cabling procurement supporting the construction of data centers. The role leads the day-to-day supply chain operations, team performance, supplier coordination, and procurement execution. This position partners closely with project leadership, engineering teams, and external vendors to ensure materials and equipment are sourced efficiently, cost-effectively, and in alignment with contractual and risk-management standards.
This position offers opportunities as an Assistant Supply Chain Manager or a Supply Chain Manager, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Supply Chain Operations and Strategy
Partner with internal stakeholders, including project teams, estimating, and design-phase leads, to align supply chain strategies with project goals and timelines.
Develop and implement package strategies with Supply Chain Leadership and Category Managers, leveraging volume across projects to improve cost, delivery, and risk profiles.
Onboard new suppliers; inviting to Mortenson prequal process and review supplier commercial redlines, identifying deviations that impact commercial, legal, safety, or schedule risk.
Facilitate factory assessment tours to fully vet our new suppliers.
Lead the first round of commercial review, negotiation, and clarification with suppliers; ensure go-by terms and conditions align with operating group expectations.
Partner with Legal, Operations, and Risk teams to ensure contract terms, insurance requirements, and compliance standards are consistently upheld.
Develop relationships with suppliers: solicit bids, analyze quotations and provide recommended project selection.
Remain knowledgeable about industry trends, market shifts, and critical equipment lead times, by maintaining budgetary pricing and current lead times to support budgetary pricing efforts.
Issue Purchase Agreements to suppliers and support negotiations and maintain contracts and agreements with key suppliers to ensure quality, reliability, and competitiveness.
Track order status from time of placing order until delivery and communicate status to project teams via Project procurement log.
Assist team with timing for fiber management plan, if custom reels or pre-terminations are required.
Lead material planning to ensure timely delivery aligned with supplier Purchase Agreement and the project schedule.
Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure quality, cost, delivery, and productivity, while leveraging Mortenson’s combined buying power.
Collaborate with Category teams on capacity and volume opportunities, as well as project proposal strategies and pricing structures.
Capture feedback from the field and integrate it into procurement strategies, supplier selection, and Buyer coaching.
Create standard structured cabling bid packages to allow for consistency with suppliers.
People Leadership
Foster teamwork, collaboration, and integration within Supply Chain and across Mortenson to drive cohesive, high-quality execution.
Provide effective coaching and feedback, manage performance, and cultivate a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
Build and maintain strong working relationships across diverse teams and organizational levels.
Provide oversight to ensure procurement activities align with engineering deliverables, field needs, and project schedules.
Troubleshoot supply issues unique to high-voltage and renewable energy infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted construction progress.
All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, construction management, or related discipline or equivalent technical training and experience.
Proven people-leadership experience, including hiring, coaching, and mentoring teams to meet short- and long-term goals
Experience driving process improvements and leading change to enhance supply chain efficiency and effectiveness.
Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen and the ability to translate complex problems into clear actions.
Skilled communicator who builds trust and clarity across diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated project management skills, including managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Strong negotiation, organization, planning, and communication skills.
Ability to lead initiatives and influence decisions in a matrix organization.
Knowledge of construction processes, equipment, materials, and procurement procedures (preferred)
Assistant Supply Chain Manager Qualifications:
7+ years of progressive supply chain experience in the structured cabling, fiber, and/or data communications industries, including hands‑on management of large‑count fiber assemblies ranging from 288 to 1728 fiber count.

8+ years of progressive supply chain experience in the structured cabling, fiber, and/or data communications industries, including hands‑on management of large‑count fiber assemblies ranging from 288 to 1728 fiber count.
The base pay range for this role is $102,000 – $160,800 (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
