SUMMARY
Mortenson is seeking a Finance Business Partner to support Vermilion Group. This role is responsible for leading the development and delivery of financial results, insights, and strategic recommendations to Vermilion’s leadership team. Core responsibilities include planning, budgeting, and forecasting, which serve as the foundation for providing high-impact decision support.
This role operates in an environment with evolving priorities, imperfect information, and open-ended questions, requiring comfort making judgment calls and building solutions rather than relying on defined playbooks.
The Finance Business Partner will act as a key liaison between the Vermilion team, its parent company (M. A. Mortenson Companies), and the broader Finance organization. This individual will play a critical role in driving financial performance and enabling strategic growth across the Vermilion portfolio.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a trusted finance business partner to Vermilion leadership, delivering proactive insights, strategic support, and responding to ad hoc requests with agility and precision.
Apply real estate finance expertise and market intelligence to guide data-driven recommendations that shape strategic decisions.
Design and build financial models and analytical frameworks from scratch that influence leadership thinking around current initiatives and future investment opportunities.
Create new tools, models, and decision-support frameworks where none previously exist.
Establish and maintain relevant industry benchmarks, leveraging data from trusted publications to contextualize performance and identify trends.
Lead monthly financial reviews with Vermilion leadership, highlighting key risks, opportunities, and variances between forecasted and actual results.
Deliver quarterly management reporting that tells a compelling financial story—integrating market, portfolio, and regional insights to inform executive decision-making.
Leverage financial technology tools to streamline workflows, enhance data synthesis, and improve reporting efficiency.
Foster strong cross‑functional relationships, collaborating effectively across diverse teams and organizational levels and building credibility through influence rather than formal authority.
Partner directly with portfolio company executive teams (CFOs and CEOs), serving as a thought partner and building trusted, long‑term relationships—not just providing financial analysis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong understanding of real estate fundamentals and capital markets required
Bachelor’s degree in finance or equivalent; MBA or other advanced degree preferred
Minimum seven years prior Finance experience
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP applications
A few benefits offered include:
