Tell us more about your background/experience/education. What decision or path led you to the construction industry/Mortenson?

During college I interned for a custom home builder. I loved seeing the results of my work in a unique, one-of-a-kind, beautiful home. That’s where my love for accounting in construction started. I knew that I wanted a career in the A/E/C industry because I would continue to see those physical results. It took me a couple years with a few other companies before I came to Mortenson, but I’m thankful for all my experience so I could truly know what I want. Mortenson has shaped who I am as an employee and has helped me see the potential I have.

Tell us about your female role model or mentor that helped you grow your career. How do/did they inspire you?

I found my career mentor, Sandra Rodriguez, when I relocated from Utah to Illinois with Mortenson. Sandra is kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, thorough and dedicated. She works endless hours to ensure that our monthly deliverable to our owner are precise and accurate. I really enjoy working with her and learning from her vast knowledge base.

What advice would you give other women considering a career in construction or the AEC industry?

If you’re considering a career in construction or ACE give it the chance it deserves. There are endless opportunities within the industry that can lead so many places. Try it out because I believe you won’t look back. I never have!
