The U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), which is currently celebrating 40 years of advanced energy innovation, has selected 22 leaders to participate in its 2017 Executive Energy Leadership program (Energy Execs). Energy Execs provides non-technical business, governmental, and community leaders throughout the country an opportunity to learn about renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies, analytical tools, and financing to guide their organizations and communities in energy-related decisions and planning.
Justin Wurth, Senior Design Phase Manager with Mortenson’s Solar & Emerging Energy Group, will participate in this 4-month long program which offers executive decision-makers an in-depth opportunity to learn from some of NREL’s most prominent scientists, engineers and professionals, tour research facilities, and visit local renewable energy installations.
At the conclusion of the program, participants will demonstrate what they have learned in the program by presenting a feasible clean energy project that is relevant to their organization or community. Justin plans to present how Mortenson can utilize the current NREL tools and data available to identify a new geographic market of expansion focus for utility scale solar 2018-2021.
Justin is the third team member from Mortenson to have been selected into the NREL program. In his 20+ year construction career he has been exposed to many different cultures -- travelling the world building some of the largest and most complicated projects. Justin developed a passion for renewable energy when in Arizona and Hawaii where unlimited sunshine brought to his attention the reality of solar being a no-brainer sustainable energy alternative for future generations. His current focus is large utility scale solar projects totaling nearly one gigawatt, with expertise in multiple solar manufactures and technologies.
