With today’s emphasis on women in Science, Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) careers, Julianne Laue stands out as a pioneer.

Julianne is the Director of Building Performance at Mortenson and is responsible for implementing energy and sustainability initiatives. Since joining Mortenson in 2013 she evolved Mortenson’s sustainability practice from an energy only approach to a holistic sustainability and human health and wellness methodology. She specializes in energy efficiency analysis, building physics, life cycle cost analysis, and related services. Julianne is also experienced in design and simulation of whole building integrated systems and provides strategic advice on a wide variety of building types and scales.

Beyond the traditional construction build, Julianne works closely with Mortenson’s customers to provide asset optimization services, including annual operating cost analysis, energy bill analysis and tracking, facilities optimization, conditions assessments, energy forensic audits, energy reduction services and facility improvement solutions—ensuring our customers can take action on the pressing challenges and issues that impact the performance of their facilities.

“Julianne is invaluable to our customers and team members because she can explain complex systems and ideas in a way that is comprehendible. This leads to better decision making and results in a more efficient building,” said Kendall Griffith, Vice President, General Manager of Mortenson.

Amara Rozgus, editor of one of the leading national engineering publications, calls Julianne a “rock star” stating that her name “holds weight” in the industry. Julianne takes her commitment to the profession beyond her office into the community, investing her time outside work helping students at the University of Minnesota; speaking at national industry meetings where she inspires other women; and serving as a STEM role model in her children’s local school district.

“Julianne is one of those rare individuals who can balance superior professional performance with unwavering commitment to community and the next generation of STEM female leaders,” Griffith stated.

Julianne was named a 2020 Women in Business honoree by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal (MSPBJ). The program recognizes industry-leading women for their leadership, community contributions, and professional achievements. All of the honorees will be highlighted in a special feature and celebrated during a virtual event in October. Click here to learn more.
