Mortenson Celebrates GIS Day

Last month, Mortenson participated in Geographic Information System (GIS) Day, which was celebrated worldwide by over 100,000 people, sharing, and illuminating the incredible work that GIS professionals are doing around the world. Nearly 70 Mortenson GIS leaders and enthusiasts met in-person and virtually from across Mortenson project sites to share, learn, and celebrate the success stories of GIS solutions. Multiple GIS use case solutions were featured by team members in the company’s Data Center Solutions, Civil, Solar, and Wind Energy offices.

Featured solutions included:

  • Dig permit and live utility application: A data center project site in Eagle Mountain, Utah developed survey123 forms, applications, and field maps to improve communication, documentation, planning, safety, and efficiency when dealing with installed utility lines and digging on site.
  • Quality tracking dashboard: Mortenson Civil office dashboard for a company collaboration project to track progress and ensure quality issues.
  • Material management and distribution solution: Mortenson Solar team employed ArcGIS to distribute material with a georeferenced map and uses creative solution (dashboards, web apps and field maps) to widen the delivery window for tracker material, torque tubes and modules.
  • Demurrage tracking dashboard: The Mortenson Wind Energy team developed a demurrage tracking dashboard to manage and minimize the risk of demurrage. It serves as a tool for transparency and accountability between stakeholders.

Industry Architecture Engineering and Construction (AEC) peers in Minneapolis also joined Mortenson GIS leaders in-person for roundtable discussions and networking and discussed the broader AEC opportunities for Location Intelligence. Peer organizations included Barr, HDR, ISG, Knutson Construction, Westwood and ESRI.
