United Theological Seminary Bigelow Chapel / New BrightonMN
A welcoming space for all
Bigelow Chapel offers a sacred space for liturgical practice, religious ritual, and meditation - as well as a location for teaching, public lectures, and concerts. Mortenson built the chapel as part of a 5,300 square foot addition to the seminary that included a narthex, meditation garden, sacristy, storage space, chaplain’s office, and movable pew chairs. Off-white travertine stone adorns the tower, processional, and narthex, bringing a sense of warmth and elegance to the facility and blending with surrounding buildings. Inside, plaster and stone were used in conjunction with birch or maple panels to cast a soft glow throughout the space.
