Pinnacle Fertility Clinic

Bringing expert fertility care to a landmark building in downtown Chicago.

Mortenson recently completed a new clinic for Pinnacle Fertility, a leading provider of fertility treatment options. Located on the ground floor of the landmark 680 N. Lake Shore Drive building in downtown Chicago, the space was previously a grocery store that closed in 2018.

The project involved a full interior buildout of approximately 19,000 square feet of clinic space that now houses eight ultrasound rooms, eleven physician’s offices, a laboratory, cryo-storage, and clinical spaces. It also includes a 7,500 square foot ambulatory surgery center with two procedure rooms and two operating rooms. To support the critical function of the surgery center, a new emergency generator was installed on the second floor of the attached parking garage and a new air handling unit was installed in the basement.

To gain an accurate representation of existing conditions, Mortenson performed a laser scan of the entire space which revealed discrepancies in the structural column locations. Knowing this prior to construction allowed the design team to update the architectural wall layout and reroute MEP systems to avoid potentially costly rework in the field. The team also used the laser scan data to generate a contour topographic map of the existing concrete slab to better understand the scope of work required to meet the stringent floor levelness and flatness standards required for the operations rooms.

Mortenson self-performed demolition, rough carpentry, millwork, doors, accessories, and wall protection.
