Workforce Development Specialist II

SUMMARY 

Mortenson is currently seeking a Workforce Development Specialist II will provide coordination and outreach efforts to establish strong partnerships with schools and technical programs. This role focuses on developing an external talent pipeline that connects pre-apprentices to Mortenson’s Apprenticeship Program. This position acts as a key liaison for the Apprenticeship Program, ensuring alignment with program curricula and facilitating a smooth entry process for candidates into Mortenson and the Apprenticeship Program. Additionally, the role represents the organization at conferences and outreach events, providing strategic planning and engagement to promote workforce development initiatives.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Support outreach efforts to pre‑apprenticeship programs and assist in qualifying external partner organizations

·         Build and maintain positive working relationships with high schools, trade schools, and technical organizations, providing basic technical and program support

·         Collaborate with Talent Acquisition, Hiring Managers, and Operating Group Leadership to understand future hiring needs for project sites

·         Assist in gathering and organizing market information related to hiring trends and workforce needs across states and regions

·         Represent the company at conferences, career fairs, and outreach events to promote the organization and its Apprenticeship Program

·         Support the completion, tracking, organization, and storage of required outreach documentation and program materials

·         Assist with administrative tasks related to onboarding new team members and processing apprentice registration documents

·         Participate in efforts to identify federal, state, and veteran grant opportunities that support apprentices and organizational workforce initiatives

·         Contribute to subject matter review committees and participate in marketing or program support projects with NCCER and other Workforce Development organizations

 

QUALIFICATIONS

·         Bachelor’s degree in HR, Industrial Relations, Public Administration, Education, or related field or equivalent experience

·         Minimum of three years of relevant experience.

·         Previous construction industry experience or knowledge preferred

·         Exposure to NCCER curriculum preferred

·         Classroom training facilitation experience preferred

·         Current driver’s license

The base pay range for this role is $85,300 MIN - $128,000 MAX. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).

 

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.  This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
