SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking a Supplier Quality Manager – Energy and Infrastructure that will implement, execute, and continuously improve Mortenson's Supplier Quality Management System (SQMS). This role will partner with Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, Estimating, Quality, Project Teams, and suppliers to apply consistent, risk-based quality controls from supplier selection through manufacturing, testing, shipment, and nonconformance resolution.
The ideal candidate has experience auditing manufacturing facilities and implementing quality systems. Deep expertise in every electrical equipment category is not required, but the ability and willingness to learn products, manufacturing processes, technical requirements, and quality risks is essential.
RESPONSIBILITIES
SQMS Implementation and Deployment
Implement and continuously improve the SQMS across assigned E&I Operating Groups, projects, suppliers, and equipment categories.
Drive adoption of standardized procedures, risk assessments, templates, work instructions, records, and supplier quality requirements.
Integrate supplier quality controls into supplier selection, procurement documents, project planning, manufacturing oversight, equipment release, and closeout.
Develop and deliver practical training; capture lessons learned and convert them into repeatable program improvements.
Supplier Audit Program Execution
Develop and execute risk-based audit plans and schedules for new, critical, and underperforming suppliers.
Conduct qualification, quality-system, manufacturing-process, surveillance, and corrective-action verification audits.
Evaluate supplier capability, capacity, QMS maturity, process controls, inspection/testing, traceability, calibration, nonconformance control, change management, and corrective action systems.
Document findings, communicate risk, assign actions, and verify timely and effective closure; coordinate qualified internal or third-party audit resources when needed.
Quality Planning, ITPs, and Manufacturing Oversight
Develop Supplier Quality Plans and risk-based Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
Establish Review, Witness, Hold, and Surveillance points with clear notification requirements, acceptance criteria, responsibilities, required evidence, and release conditions.
Review supplier quality plans, procedures, test plans, inspection methods, critical characteristics, special processes, and sub-tier controls.
Plan and perform source inspections, first-article inspections, manufacturing surveillance, pre-shipment inspections, and documentation reviews.
Ensure supplier quality requirements are flowed down through purchase orders, specifications, quality agreements, and sub-tier suppliers.
Factory Acceptance Testing and Release
Develop and maintain FAT templates, checklists, readiness criteria, and equipment-specific test requirements.
Coordinate FAT scope, responsibilities, acceptance criteria, witness requirements, documentation, and scheduling.
Lead or support FAT readiness reviews, witness testing, review results, and track failed tests, deviations, and punch-list items through closure.
Verify complete and acceptable objective evidence before shipment authorization.
Supplier Performance and Cross-Functional Leadership
Lead or support supplier containment, SCARs, root cause analysis, corrective actions, effectiveness verification, and escalation.
Monitor audit results, nonconformances, corrective-action aging, recurring issues, and supplier performance trends.
Communicate quality risks, business impacts, ownership, release status, and mitigation actions clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
Facilitate supplier quality workshops, kickoff meetings, audit closeouts, FAT planning sessions, and corrective-action reviews.
Build constructive supplier relationships while maintaining clear accountability for contractual and quality requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Operations Management, Manufacturing Technology, Quality, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
5 or more years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, quality engineering, quality systems, auditing, engineering, manufacturing, or construction.
Experience auditing manufacturing facilities and evaluating quality management systems and manufacturing controls.
Working knowledge of ISO 9001 principles, auditing techniques, nonconformance management, root cause analysis, and corrective action.
Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, purchase requirements, inspection criteria, test procedures, and quality records.
Strong implementation, project management, communication, facilitation, and stakeholder-influence skills.
Ability to work across multiple Operating Groups and learn electrical and industrial equipment and manufacturing processes.
Current driver license
Ability to travel up to 50%, including internationally, when required.
Preferred Qualifications
ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, ASQ CQA, CQE, CSQP, CMQ/OE, or similar credential.
Experience implementing an SQMS and executing ITPs, FATs, source inspections, manufacturing surveillance, quality hold points, supplier qualification, SCAR/CAPA, scorecards, and supplier development.
Experience in construction, renewable energy, power infrastructure, electrical equipment, industrial manufacturing.

The base pay range for this role is $100,100 - $150,200. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
