Industrialized Equipment Specialist- Solar
SUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking an Equipment Specialist to join the Industrialization team within our Solar group to support the build, deployment, readiness, and continuous improvement of specialized and industrialized construction equipment. A major focus of this role is coordinating new equipment builds from planning through completion, including maintaining design and configuration documentation, ordering parts, coordinating outside suppliers and internal technicians, supporting testing and commissioning, and incorporating field feedback into equipment improvements. The position also coordinates equipment lifecycle activities among Industrialization, project teams, Equipment Facility teams, field technicians, Buyers, suppliers, accounting partners, and ESM HQ Leadership (Equipment Management, Procedure, and Manufacturing).

RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate new specialized equipment builds from planning through completion, serving as the central point of coordination among technical leads, internal technicians, equipment facilities, outside fabricators, suppliers, and other partners.
Maintain accurate design, build, and configuration documentation, including drawings, bills of material, specifications, manuals, parts lists, change records, inspection records, and standard work.
Plan material requirements; source and order parts, components, equipment, and services; create purchase orders; monitor lead times; and resolve shortages or supplier issues that could affect build schedules.
Develop and maintain build plans, priorities, schedules, status reporting, quality checks, and completion records; coordinate fabrication, assembly, integration, testing, commissioning, and delivery activities.
Coordinate with engineers, technical leads, technicians, suppliers, and project teams to resolve build issues, clarify requirements, manage design or configuration changes, and ensure equipment is safe, complete, documented, and ready for field use.
Gather feedback and lessons learned from technicians, operators, and project teams; identify recurring issues and improvement opportunities; and coordinate equipment modifications, standardization, reliability improvements, and future design requirements.
Support equipment demonstrations, pilots, field validation, startup, commissioning, operator and technician training, and broader deployment or commercialization activities, as applicable.
Maintain fleet and inventory records, including asset location, availability, condition, configuration, service status, deployment history, spare parts, and build materials.
Coordinate equipment forecasting, allocation, mobilization, transfers, demobilization, returns, deliveries, and project readiness, including pre-mobilization planning with site leadership.
Coordinate inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, upgrades, recalls, warranties, technical support, and resolution of equipment failures with the responsible teams and suppliers.
Interpret and communicate utilization, availability, downtime, reliability, maintenance, cost, build-status, and forecast information; lead equipment review meetings and follow through on required actions.
Process and reconcile contracts, invoices, work orders, fleet charges, rentals, repairs, and vendor billing in coordination with accounting, project teams, and suppliers.
Provide responsive equipment solutions and support to internal customers, including vehicle ordering, DOT registration and inquiries, and coordination with carriers and third-party rental or service providers.
Participate in the equipment facility safety program, environmental surveys, Mortenson’s Zero Injury policy, LEAN, 5S, standardization, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
Build effective working relationships across functions, organizational levels, and diverse backgrounds.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree and 1+ years of construction equipment, manufacturing, fabrication, fleet operations, procurement, or related professional experience, or 2+ years of equivalent relevant experience; bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience coordinating equipment builds, fabrication, assembly, integration, testing, commissioning, maintenance, or field deployment.
Ability to maintain controlled technical documentation, including drawings, bills of material, specifications, parts lists, equipment configurations, manuals, service records, and change history.
Working knowledge of purchasing, material planning, inventory, supplier coordination, purchase orders, billing, rental, maintenance, repair, and service processes.
Ability to read and apply basic mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, controls, or equipment service information and communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical partners.
Strong cross-functional coordination, planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, and follow-through; able to manage multiple priorities and influence without direct authority.
Ability to collect field feedback, analyze build and fleet information, identify trends, and coordinate practical equipment improvements.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable using fleet, maintenance, inventory, purchasing, or enterprise resource planning systems.
Positive, professional, customer-focused communicator who listens effectively and is open to diverse input and feedback.
Ability to travel up to 25% to support equipment builds, suppliers, project mobilizations, deployments, training, and field needs.

The base pay range for this role is $76,600 – $95,800 (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%).
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
