As a PV Engineer I, you will be responsible for providing engineering support to project leadership during the design phase as it relates to Customer Experience, Site Layout, Energy Modeling, Contract Review, Electrical Design, and Equipment Specification that results in smooth transition to construction operations.
Site Layout
Generate accurate, highly detailed construction drawings in 2d and 3d software
Determine appropriate ground coverage ratios utilizing varied racking technologies
Incorporate site constraints and setbacks
With support, assess/survey site conditions and anticipate issues that may arise during construction
Energy Performance Modeling
Produce energy production models in PVSyst and NREL System Advisor Model
Contract Review
Apply PPA and Interconnection requirements to electrical design
Align contract documents with performance testing standards (PR, Capacity, Energy…)
Check owner equipment requirements against Mortenson internal specifications
Identify for commissioning SMEs the location of commissioning related activities within EPC contracts
Electrical Design
Perform string size calculations using Excel and database tools
Read single line diagrams for equipment counts and types
Use sizing spreadsheets for reactive power
Size conductors for ampacity and installation location
Equipment Specifications
Highlight differences between mono/poly/bifacial/thin film module types for customers
Apply inverter temperature, elevation, and power factor derates
Compare vendor quotes with Mortenson internal equipment specifications
Inspire What’s Possible with Independent Projects
Research development in solar technology for new products and stays current on new technological developments in the field.
Generate new ideas, go beyond the status quo; recognize the need for new or modified approaches
Read technical articles and attend Solar PV training to keep up with latest products, design techniques, and construction strategies
Construction Site Team Support
Develop relationships with field engineers and electrical engineers on project sites. Attend design meetings.
Transfer knowledge of the basis of design from the RFP process to site team member
Additional Information:
It is likely and anticipated for Mortenson team members to participate on traveling project assignments throughout their careers. Depending upon the operating group, frequent mobility may be required

Possess a current driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation
Have previous related internship experience

The base compensation range for this role is $70,200 - $99,900. This position is eligible for a potential annual bonus. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skill and experience with consideration given to internal equity.
