Mortenson Wraps Up Another Successful United Way Campaign

Since 1955, Mortenson’s ongoing partnership with United Way has been one of the key opportunities for the company and our team members to live out our values of stewardship, team work, and service. “Being a part of a community, means to us as a company and as team members, working, living, and giving there,” said Alice Mortenson, Director of Community Relations. “We have been blessed to have the capacity to give our time, talent, and dollars.”

Across the company, team members pledged over $545,000 to United Way, surpassing the company’s goal of $525,000. Based on these financial gifts and volunteer hours, Mortenson provided a generous donation match that brings our grand total contribution to an astounding $833,296!!

Here in Chicago we celebrated impressive results with over 70% of our team members participating in the campaign through donations, service, and financial pledges. This culminated in over 1,100 pairs of socks donated to Journeys | The Road Home, 236 volunteer hours logged, and a total financial pledge of $11,120 to United Way!

Feed My Starving Children

Our Chicago team had a record turnout for our 4th Annual Feed My Starving Children food packing donation event. Many hands made light work as we packed 22,680 meals for families in Nicaragua; that’s enough to feed 62 children for a year!

Green Apple Day of Service

USGBC’s Green Apple Day of Service is a unique opportunity to transform schools into healthy, safe, and productive learning environments through local service events. Mortenson’s Chicago office partnered with the General Services Administration (GSA) and Wheeler Kearns Architects to volunteer at Foundations College Prep. The collective team built a high tunnel greenhouse, planted 40 Earth Boxes, and helped the school with miscellaneous clean-up projects.

Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build Event

Women from both the Chicago office and field took part in Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build event. This program brings together women from all walks of life to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide. Our team spent the day framing a house for a deserving Veteran and his four children.
