After skipping the event in 2020 because of COVID-19, the team at Mortenson Denver was so excited to lace up our cleats and get back out on the links this year for our Annual Golf Tournament, which raises money for worthy causes in the metro Denver area.
This year’s beneficiary was Minds Matter, Mortenson Denver’s 2021 Community Impact Partner of the Year. Minds Matter works to support the educational aspirations of high-achieving high school students from low-income households throughout Colorado. The program provides them with the guidance they need to gain admittance to the college of their choice and succeed there.
Together with sponsor contributions, Mortenson’s fundraising efforts resulted in an $85,000 donation to Minds Matter at the tournament, held June 4 at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood.
“We were so excited to be back together again for our annual charity golf tournament! I want to thank all of our golfers, sponsors, organizers and volunteers for making this event such a great success,” said Gene Hodge, vice president and general manager of Mortenson Denver. “Your contributions will help Minds Matter Colorado provide kids in our communities with the support and resources they need to reach their full potential.”
The partnership between Mortenson Denver and Minds Matter makes a tangible impact and helps prepare the workforce of tomorrow through a strategic focus on education. The money raised at this golf tournament will help a deserving student from a low-income family break the cycle of poverty.
Right now, just one in four low-income Colorado kids will goes to a four-year college. This lack of access to higher education creates generational poverty, a cycle that continues to hurt all Coloradans. College graduates make twice as much over their lifetimes (often over $1 million more) than do high school graduates.
Minds Matter Colorado continues to support the Colorado community by:
- Guiding hundreds of students into college through academic preparedness, writing and critical thinking, and college test and application preparation
- Keeping graduates from the burden of millions of dollars in student loan
- Helping thousands of donors make a difference
100% of Minds Matter Colorado graduates have:
- Graduated high school on time
- Attended collegiate summer programs
- Been accepted into four-year colleges and universities
- Earned scholarships
