Todd Stewart Selected as one of Prairie Business Magazine’s 40 Under 40 Honorees

Todd Stewart is listed among Prairie Business Magazine’s 40 Under 40 honorees. The program recognizes some of the most inspiring young business people in the Northern Plains for their professional achievement and community involvement.

As Safety Manager of Mortenson’s North Dakota Operations, Todd is responsible for safety on all construction projects across the state, including the Sanford Fargo Medical Center, Dickinson Middle School, Churchill Hall Renovation at North Dakota State University, Southwest Healthcare facility in Bowman, and West Fargo Public Schools Hockey Arena, to name a few.

Todd’s main role is to promote the health and wellbeing of the craft workforce. His leadership skills excel in providing management, direction, and implementation of Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety Program. Over the past 20 years, Mortenson has achieved world-class safety excellence through this program, which states that safety must be achieved above quality, productivity, and the overall project.

“When it comes to the construction industry and safety it’s about commitment and buy-in from every single person on the job site,” said Phil Siek, Senior Director of Planning and Construction at the Sanford Fargo Medical Center. “Todd is able to effectively create and foster this environment of commitment to safety and to each other. He brings a thoughtful and level-headed approach to everything he does and it shows throughout the job site.”

Todd often refers to safety as the quiet, unsung hero of the building profession, noting that safety oftentimes goes unrecognized as a project continues to progress smoothly and successfully. He feels safety is about the people and ensuring that everyone goes home each day better than they came to work. “People think this is just about safety here at work, but I hope they take what they learn here and use it at home, share it with their kids, significant others or family members,” said Todd. “If somebody goes home and shares just one thing and it helps, that’s pretty powerful.”
