Collaboration starts with relationships. We are all better when we take the time to listen and understand those we are working with.

Commitment to community

Giving back to the community is at the heart of everything I do. I grew up on the receiving end and know first-hand what an impact local organization can have on an individual, a family, and a community. I believe meaningful impact begins with active involvement in local organizations and providing leadership that helps advance their missions and strengthen the communities they serve. Being part of a company that empowers team members and actively drives community engagement inspires me, because together we create change that is far greater than any individual project.

Relationships matter

Great relationships serve as the foundation for holding each other accountable, working together to solve problems, and being willing to have difficult conversations. The construction industry brings challenges to every project, many of which are beyond our control. Being proactive when these challenges arise and working together as a team consistently yields the best outcomes. I often say, if you want to hire someone to simply build your building, focus on the price alone. But if you want a partner who has your back every step of the way—making your challenges our challenges, then hire Mortenson.

Creating a far superior experience

Sometimes people ask me what it’s like to work for such a large organization, and I have to pause to think about it. When I started with Mortenson 20 years ago, it didn’t feel like a large firm. Minneapolis, our headquarters—felt like a small, family-oriented culture. And even though we’ve grown over the years, that culture hasn’t changed. What I’ve noticed most, however, is the talented team members we have across every part of our business and how quickly we can engage them to share their expertise. I have yet to work on a project with a unique space, building system, or building element that someone within our organization doesn’t have experience with. Having that level of expertise at your fingertips is a huge benefit to our customers and one of the reasons I appreciate working at Mortenson.

PERSONAL PASSIONS

I love spending time with my wife and three kids, staying active in their sports and traveling together to create lifelong memories. We have a national parks push pin map and our goal as a family is to visit each one.
